Late one night this week, I was scrolling through Instagram when I should have been sleeping. I was noticing how all sorts of ads are targeted to me on social media past 10pm, when Iโm tired and susceptible to impulse purchases. One ad involving a quiz caught my eye. Ever since my teen days of taking quizzes in YM or Seventeen magazine, Iโve been a sucker for a quiz. This one was about scents, with the goal of getting me to buy a custom blended perfume. (Full disclosure: I bought a very tiny sample vial because of my weak, late-night brainโs curiosity.)
Iโve been making my own essential oil blends to wear for the pastโฆ gosh, nearly 30 years! In my early 20s, on the side of my corporate ad tech gig, I ran a one-woman business creating natural personal care products (soaps, lip balms, salves, bath sachets, body oils, etc.) and sold them in stores in my NYC neighborhood and online in the verrrrry earliest days of e-commerce.
I thought it might be fun for us all to spend a moment this weekend taking inventory of which types of scents appeal to usโฆ and why.
