
1998 was the year Sex and the City premiered on HBO, and it was also the year I moved to New York City. I loved the original run of that show because the city was one of the main characters, and I saw glimpses of my home whenever I watched — familiar streets, subway stations, stores, restaurants, bars, parks. I also loved it because, at the time, I had this fantasy of having a super-close group of loyal, available, and hilarious friends and of writing a mega-successful book for which my publisher would throw me a fabulous book launch party at a gorgeous night club in Manhattan. (Hahaha, as if that still happens to anyone except the top 1% of authors in “The Big Five”… oh, the publishing industry will have to be a post for another day.)
But ahhh, New York, New York!
