Almost two months past my closing date on purchasing my first home by myself, Iām finally sleeping under her cute roof! It took a bit of time to move in because of some cosmetic adjustments needed to help this space feel like ours. (Ours = Diana has more officially moved in with me! š)
I also didnāt want to move down to Denver until my teen graduated from their high school in Boulder. So as of last Wednesday, all our belongings have been plopped down in our new home.
Thereās so much going on in the world right now, and my heart is breaking as I search cardboard boxes for my electric toothbrush and the kittiesā favorite toy. Iām so angry about this war with Iran (WTAF!!!!?!?!), about the war on trans people, about the fact that weāre somehow not talking about a Republican voter killing two politicians, about this fucking Fascist who is dismantling democracyā¦. etc. Iām watching my kid protest at the Colorado state capitol while I unpack their bedroom. Iām looking for the good in humanity. Iām noticing beauty. Iām making a homeā¦ in Denver!
First impressions:
Iām going to get a lot of podcast listening time on my commutes back into and out of Boulder ā the traffic between my house and Boulder is bananas at rush hour!
My BFF stopped by two days in a row already ā because I live closer to her now (and because sheās an awesome friend who helped me unbox my art studio and office!)
Figuring out new grocery stores is wonky and disorienting.
Jinx and Juju (my kitties) are really curious, smart, adaptable little adventurers!
juju + jinx, rocking this transition I have a lot more trinkets and art supplies than anyone should. And bowls. I have a thing for bowls.
People are SO KIND. It took so many helpers to get me into this place! From generous family to industrious friends to skilled realtors to lotsa different talented contractors and Task Rabbits and Thumbtackers ā everyone has been very giving and sweet.
The transformation feels refreshing so farā¦
reading: Iāve been listening to the audiobook of Actress of a Certain Age by Jeff Hiller while packing and unpacking. Heās delightful!
watching: We havenāt had time for much TV, but Diana and I keep putting on episodes of Modern Family when we need a little break. Short and sweet!
listening to: Mae Martinās music album, Iām a TV - and itās giving such Elliott Smith vibes!
