Big week, my friends: I chopped off my hair and left my house! This autumn, I’ve felt a bit stagnant and lackluster, impeded by a nondescript heaviness. Erikson’s idea that the developmental challenge in midlife is “stagnation vs generativity” kept playing in my head. As entered my birthday month and the long Colorado winter ahead, I wanted some oomph! So last week, I got a new lid and accompanied my girlfriend on a business trip to San Diego. And ya know, I’m starting to feel movement. Sometimes it takes “getting your ears lowered” (as my grandfather would say whenever he got a haircut) and plopping yourself into a new climate to shake shit up!
